Field Day Fun in the Sun! We are SO excited about field day. May 12th is 3rd through 5th grade. May 13th is 1st and 2nd grade. May 14th is Prek and K grades.

Mrs. Alicia Clanton, who frequently subs at Van Wert, will be a SPED paraprofessional next year, and Mr. Garrett, who is currently one of our SPED paras, will be over the computer lab next year! He carries a strong sense of purpose in everything he pursues. With a natural confidence and calm demeanor, he presents himself as someone who values both growth and discipline. Whether refining skills, building knowledge, or exploring new opportunities, he approaches life with intention rather than guesswork. He has a clear passion for mastery—especially in areas that require precision, strategy, and creativity. This mindset shows in his interest in bowling, where understanding mechanics, layouts, and performance isn’t just a hobby, but a craft he continues to sharpen. If things go as he plans after the summer season, he is hoping to be the first pro bowler in his family, paving the way for everyone under him. He also shares a never-dying love for basketball. Beyond that, he’s drawn to bigger ideas—technology, innovation, and building systems that can evolve into something impactful. He’s also on a path of learning and expansion, diving into subjects like artificial intelligence and even ancient languages to deepen his understanding of both modern and foundational knowledge. That mix of forward-thinking and respect for roots sets him apart. Grounded but ambitious, he’s not chasing attention—he’s building something real. Step by step, he’s shaping a future that reflects both skill and vision.

I have been a substitute teacher for Polk County for the last 2 years and spent most of my time at Van Wert. My husband and I have two beautiful children who attend school here with me. Our daughter Kinsley is an upcoming 4th grader, and our son Gene is an upcoming 1st grader. My family and I love to camp, fish, attend church on Sundays, explore new restaurants, and spend time with our sweet dog, Axle.

Save the dates for our End-of-the-Year Programs May 19th 4th grade is at 8:30, 3rd Grade is at 10:20 am, 2nd grade is at 12:00, 1st grade is at 12:50. Prek is on May 20th at 9:00 am kindergarten is at 12:30 on May 20th and 5th grade is on May 21st at 9:00 am.
