Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt, 27 Oct 1858—6 Jan 1919, was the 26th president of the United States (1901–1909) and a writer, naturalist, and soldier.
When war was declared against Spain in 1898, Roosevelt organized the 1st Volunteer Cavalry (the Rough Riders) and became the biggest national hero to come out of the Spanish-American War.
