Our Westside Elementary School Third Grade students scored BIG with their unit on opinion writing AND their Super Bowl predictions! As we all geared up for the highly anticipated Super Bowl, our third-grade students at Westside Elementary School were not just excited about the game; they were using their enthusiasm to enhance their opinion writing skills! Students engaged in a unique and educational activity, predicting the Super Bowl outcome and supporting their choices through well-crafted opinion pieces. We are #PSDProud ❤️🖤💛

SHOUT OUT to Mr. Joel Guthrie's PCCCA-Cedartown Carpentry class that constructed 50 sawhorses for the Peek Park Playground Project for the City of Cedartown! These sawhorses will be used during March 20 -24 as the community comes together to build a brand-new playground at Peek's Park! We are #PSDProud! 💛🖤❤️ The purpose of the Young Georgia Authors (YGA) writing competition is to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, to provide a context to celebrate their writing successes, and to recognize student achievement in arts and academics. This prestigious competition has been engaging Georgia students for more than two decades and is open to any student currently enrolled in Georgia public schools, grades K -12. The competition is sponsored by the Georgia Language Arts Supervisors (GLAS) and the Georgia RESA Network with support from the Georgia Department of Education.

Cason was awarded the Georgia Young Farmers Association (GYFA) Terrell Weeks Memorial Scholarship at the 54th GYFA Annual Conference this weekend! The memorial scholarship is given to a senior student affiliated with a chartered young farmer chapter each year in honor of Terrell Weeks, who served as the Georgia Young Farmers executive director. Students chosen to receive the scholarship are those who have demonstrated academic excellence and outstanding achievement and plan to further their education in agriculture. IMPORTANT! Based on conversations with our Local Emergency Management office regarding the potential for severe weather tomorrow, Tuesday, January 9, including flash flooding and high wind gusts, Polk School District is delaying school two hours to allow our bus drivers/riders and student drivers to navigate their daily routes in the daylight. We apologize for any inconvenience but will always make decisions in the best interest of our students and staff, keeping safety our first priority. Thank you for continuing to support us in our efforts. Time Change Examples include: If your bus picks you up at 6:45 on a normal school day, they will pick you up at 8:45. If you normally drop your child off at 7:15, you will drop off at 9:15. If the tardy bell rings at 7:35 daily, it will ring at 9:35. Dismissal times will remain the same.
