My name is Lawana Gurley. I have been teaching for 20 years. I am so excited to have the opportunity to teach your child. This will be my third year teaching Kindergarten. I have previoulsy taught First Grade for 15 years and Third grade for 2 years.  I graduated and received my Early Childhood Education degree from the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Ga. I received my Masters in Early Childhood Education from Nova Southeastern in Florida. I have worked and completed a Reading, Math, and Science Endorsment through RESA.

I am currently the Assisstant Coach of Northside FLL and Jr FLL Robotics team. Our 3-5 grade teams are the DawgBots and Jr Dawgbots. Northside currently has 2 FLL teams and 3 Jr. FLL teams.  We currently have 50-60 students who come after school each week. We are so excited to be the first elementary school to compete with Robotics in Polk County. Check out my webpage for all the details about the upcoming events with their tasks and competitions.

My ultimate goal is to make a difference in children lives.  I want my students to love school and learn many fun and new exciting things. I believe that if a child feels loved, safe, and accepted he/she will thrive academically and emotionally. I think it is important for students to feel an "ownership" in their education.  As a teacher it is important to instill a love of learning so that my students will become life-long leaners!  I feel very strongly that each child should feel a sense of acomplishment and achievement in my classroom. I have always wanted to work with the lower grades. Lower grades are my passion. Teaching Kindergarten and having the experience of teaching 1st grade will give me the opportunity to teach many different concepts. I love teaching and I love what I do.

I have been married for 34 years and we have 3 dogs (2 are my "Gran-Dogs").  Ricky and Erin also have a dog named "Birdie" who I rescued from our barn. She is also my "Gran-Dog". I love to read, cook, sew, various crafts projects, and work on our farm with my husband.  My husband’s name is Lee. He is an Internal Auditor for Southern Company. I have 2 daughters Erin and Breana. In April of 2016 I became a proud Grandmother. Erin and Ricky have just had their first child, Benjamin. Having  a "Gran-Kid" is AWESOME!!! Erin and Ricky are so excited.  He is our bundle of joy. Erin attended Pharmacy School at UGA and is now pursuing a career as a pharamcist with Piedmont Hospital in Athens, Georgia. Breana is working on her Degree and is living in Connecticut.  Ricky is currently working in a Genetics Lab in Athens, Georgia completing research.
