• Alert: Polk School District has been monitoring the condition of the roads all afternoon and evening. We have been in constant contact with public works, 911, and the Polk School District Transportation Department, and will continue to do so through the early morning hours. Due to the possibility of the roads in many parts of the county already unsafe or will become unsafe for school transportation, we will be delaying school tomorrow by two hours. The delay will allow our buses to pick up students during daylight hours. Good road visibility will be necessary for drivers to determine whether the use of an alternate road on their route would be a safer option for our students when they encounter an excess of water on the road. Should conditions worsen throughout the night, we will make a school closing determination by 6:00 am. This announcement will be provided through the various media outlets, including the PSD Facebook page, Website, Reminds, and One Call Now phone system.

My name is Leann Hopkins and I am looking forward to my fourth year teaching art at Van Wert Elementary. Our theme is "Van Wert Rocks"! Art Students will be rocking through some art history! We will look at the greatest hits from Van Gogh, Monet and Cezanne just to name a few. Along with learning about great artists, students will get to be great artists as well. Special projects in drawing, painting, printmaking, sewing, and clay will keep us rocking through the year!!

I began teaching art in 1990 after graduating from Kennesaw State University with a Bachelors of Science in Art Education. I have worked on graduate studies through out the years and have taught public, private and homeschool students.  My favorite areas in art are painting and pottery. I live in Villa Rica with my husband, David. We have three daughters and one son. I enjoy spending time with my family, working on house projects, painting and taking care of our rescue mutts.

"Children at different stages of artistic development should be motivated by appropriate media and themes and the curriculum guided mainly by deveopmental considerations."
