My name is Amber Fuqua, and I am a special education teacher at Van Wert Elementary in Rockmart, Georgia. I teach the 3 and 4 year old special needs classroom. I absolutely LOVE my job and look forward to each and every day! I have 16 years experience in Polk School District as a special education teacher. I earned my BS Degree in Special Educaiton from the University of West Georgia, and my MS degree in interreated special edcuation from the University of West Georgia. I earned my EDS degree in the area of Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University.
I attended and graduated from Rockmart High School and continue to live in Rockmart. I am married to Chad Fuqua and we have two children...Audrey Anna (12 years old) and Colby (10 years old). Audrey Anna attends Rockmart Middle School and Colby is in 4th grade at Van Wert Elementary School.
My Philosophy of Education
As a teacher of students with exceptional learning needs at Van Wert Elementary School, I accept the responsibility of providing a positive and rewarding education for all students. I accept the duties of making the educational playing field equal for all children. I promise to make the necessary accommodations so that ALL students can and will succeed.
For the students and caretakers, I promise to provide a safe and conducive learning environment for all students. I promise to set my standards for achievement high. I promise to involve caretakers in all academic decisions. I promise to research and understand each individual disability. I promise to individualize all lessons and tasks. I promise to treat each student with compassion. I promise to be a role model for appropriate behavior in and out of the classroom.
For the students with exceptional needs community, I promise to adhere to confidentiality. I promise to write all individualized education plans to the best of my knowledge. I promise to keep all student files neat and orderly. I promise to follow all federal special education rules and regulations. I promise to stay active in the Council for Exceptional Children. I promise to further my education and to meet all the needs of the exceptional children community.
