This is my 18th year as a teacher. Of those, I have been at CHS for the past 13. I am excited to be a part of the new Polk County College and Career Academy. It is a blessing to teach at the same school as my husband, who teaches drama, acting, and musical theatre.

I teach the Teaching as a Profession pathway, interior design classes, and I am the yearbook advisor. All of these, very different classes, have greatly enriched my teaching career and allowed me to stretch creatively.

My personal philosophy of education is that learning doesn't take place without mutual respect and trust between the teacher and her students. I feel that it is my duty to build meaningful relationships with my students and to bridge the gap between my curriculum and real life, so that they can succeed in everything they do. I like to keep lines of communication open and honest and I strive to make my classroom a place where all people feel safe to speak up and have their opinion heard and considered.

The only things I love more than teaching are my family and trips to Walt Disney World.  I never planned on becoming a teacher. My journey just led me here, and I am so glad that it did. It has been an extremely fulfilling career.
