WELCOME TO MY CLASS!

Hi, I'm Mr. Foster! I'm the Social Studies and Science teacher for 4th Grade at Northside Elementary School.  I'm from Cedartown, and I graduated from Cedartown High School; but before that, Northside was my school, too.

About me

I went to the University of Georgia, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.  I also earned a certificate in History and International Affairs from Oxford University, in England.  My teaching certifications in Georgia are in Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, 6-12 History, and 6-12 Political Science.  In 2013, I was elected to a 4-year term as Cedartown City Commissioner, and I was re-elected to a second term in 2017.  I am also the tennis coach at Cedartown High School.  In addition to teaching at Northside, I also teach foreign langauges privately and online.

What I believe
I'm passionate about making sure you're not only smart students, but that you grow to be good, well-rounded people--people who know about our place in the world, and can see the good, the bad, and the ugly, from ALL sides and points of view.  In my class, we leave preconceptions, biases, and labels at the door.  My philosophy of education is that no matter where you come from, you can make great gains in your own education; it's my job to provide a welcoming, safe, and learning-conducive environment, and it's your job to open your mind and do your best.  This is a winning recipe that can increase your opportunities for a successful life!

So what does all this have to do with you

Social Studies, and history in particular, is a way of learning from other people's good ideas as well as their bad mistakes.  When we study history, we can try to keep the bad things from happening again, and can use the good things to build us into better people, which creates a better world.  I'm proud to teach you, and I look forward to watching you grow into well-informed, thoughtful people.

Remember:   be the change you want to see in the world.

Sincerely,

Mr. Foster
