Eastside Elementary 2015-2016

 Where Learning is SWEET!!

Hello! My name is Sandie Guthrie Rice.  I am a native to Polk County. I was born and raised in Cedartown almost 45 years ago! Yes, I am over 40!  I moved to Rockmart in 1997 and have been here ever since.  I have two beautiful children that call me mom!.  Canaan is in the 8th grade at Rockmart Middle School.  I am finding it hard to believe that my first born is almost in high school.  She loves the phone, makeup, and life! Micah is in the 3rd grade this year at Eastside. He is the typical boy.  He loves to hunt, fish, and play ball.  Just the other day he tried to kill a squirrel for our lunch! Thank God the nasty varmet got away!  It just doesn't seem real that my babies have gotten to this age. I just recently remarried in October!

This year marks my 19th year teaching!  It doesn't seem real that I am officially a veteran teacher.  It just seems like yesterday that I started teaching at Westside in Cedartown.  I graduated from Berry College in Rome, Ga. After graduating with a bachelor's degree I pursued my masters and educational specialist degrees from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama.   I was hired at Polk School District immediately after graduating.  I taught at Westside elementary for 1.5 years.  Then I transferred to Euharlee Kindergarten to teach PreK.  I then transferred to Eastside and have been here ever since.  I have taught PreK, Kindergarten, First, Second, and Third grades throughout the years.  I must say that Kindergarten is quite entertaining to say the least.

I love to read, listen to music, travel, and anything else that involves laughter.  Everyday is a new adventure to me.  I always want to be found embracing life to the fullest.  I want to embrace everything that God wants to bless me with.  I feel that life is too short so I want to make the most of it.  Teaching is a passion to me.  It is not just a job, it is my way of life.  I personally want to strive to be the best educator that I can possibly be.  I want to push your child to  strive for his/her very best.  My goal is for them to reach for the moon.  If they land among the stars that have still won!  Every child deserves the chance to excel and grow into wonderful adults. I feel like the education of children takes a village.  I can't do the task alone and neither can you.  It takes a village to grow a child and I want us to work together to grow your child into the most wonderful adult.  So no, I do not take the education of your child lightly!  It is a serious matter when it comes to life a child!  It is our duty to work together to encourage your child to critically think, show respect to others, and to respect themselves.

I must say that I am so excited to be working together with you this year!  Thank you for entrusting me with your precious little one.  I promise I will do all I can to make this the best year ever! I will give your child my best!
