• Alert: Polk School District has been monitoring the condition of the roads all afternoon and evening. We have been in constant contact with public works, 911, and the Polk School District Transportation Department, and will continue to do so through the early morning hours. Due to the possibility of the roads in many parts of the county already unsafe or will become unsafe for school transportation, we will be delaying school tomorrow by two hours. The delay will allow our buses to pick up students during daylight hours. Good road visibility will be necessary for drivers to determine whether the use of an alternate road on their route would be a safer option for our students when they encounter an excess of water on the road. Should conditions worsen throughout the night, we will make a school closing determination by 6:00 am. This announcement will be provided through the various media outlets, including the PSD Facebook page, Website, Reminds, and One Call Now phone system.

Becky Sweat, SLP

Born in North Carolina, I moved to Cedartown at the age of three when my dad, Richard Jewell, bought an optometry practice here. I attended Northside Elementary, Purks Junior High, and graduated from Cedartown High School. After attending Agnes Scott College for two years, I transferred to the University of Georgia, where I received a BA degree in music, with a specialty in organ.

Eventually returning to Cedartown, I married Ed Sweat, who practiced dentistry until 2003. We were married for 27 years until he passed away in 2008 due to complications from an accident. While raising our family, I taught piano lessons and was director of First United Methodist Preschool.

Returning to school in 1998, I went to the University of West Georgia, receiving a B.Ed. and M.Ed. in Speech Language Pathology. I have been working with Polk School District since 2001 at various schools, serving students from PreK through High School. I am presently based at Young’s Grove Elementary School.
