The Cedartown Middle School Band program has a very high standard of musical performances in our community and our region. Band students are encouraged to develope their leadership and musicianship through participation in Solo & Ensemble, All-County, All District and All-State Honor Bands. A good attitude is very important! Always be on time and prepared. Home practice and private lessons are encouraged.

Students are expected to be in their seat, ready to rehearse at the designated class start time.

Students are expected NOT to TALK while the Director is teaching.

Eating, Drinking or Gum is NOT ALLOWED in the BANDROOM.

ONLY the students' iPads are allowed for use in the BANDROOM (NO PHONES)

Although musical content and evaluation procedures change and vary for each 9 week quarter, band students are evaluated continuously for improvement in basic musical areas related to the playing of each individual student. These areas include tone production, intonation practices, musical performances, and the physical aspects of playing their instrument. The students are graded on two aspects: Class Participation (60 %) Assesments (30 %) which includes playing tests and performances, and Final Exams/ Concerts (10%)

Class Participation - Students receive 5 points per day that they are PLAYING THEIR INSTRUMENT in Class.

Assessments (playing tests and performances) - Students are evaluated on the INDIVIDUAL playing tests. 100 points are possible for each of these.

Final Exams/ Concerts - Mandatory for ALL  Band members. This counts as a 100 point test. Failure to report to Concerts will result in a ZERO for the Concert grade. There are NO MAKE UP EXAMS for Concert grades.

Band Students are responsible for obtining their own instruments. A limited amount of "color" instruments (French Horns, Baritones, Bass Clarinets, & Tubas) are available. Students wishing to play these instruments will need to provide their own mouthpiece, book and supplies. A repair person will be coming each week to make simple repairs on instruments purchased from Gadsden Music Company.

Student instrument lockers are available for No Charge. These lockers are for their instrument and music only.  Students are responsible for their own lock. If a student is using a Pad (key) lock please give a spare key to Mr. Gossett so that if the student loses or forgets the key they may still participate in class. Any lock left behind at the end of the school year will be cut off.

We will have fundraisers throughout the school year. Please help us by being involved with these. If you know of a company that would like to pledge support of our program please inform Mr. Gossett.

At the end of this year students may "tryout" for the Cedartown High School Band if they wish. All students will be prepared for the rigors of the tryout.
