Dear Parents and Guardians:
In a recent class at Kennesaw State University, I was introduced to “Age of Opportunity: Lessons From the New Science of Adolescence” by Laurence Steinberg, Ph.D. I want to share some of the new research so that you, as parents, and I, as the teacher, can better understand our 8th graders. Research methods change and the extent of the research develops to create a different understanding the previous years. Dr. Steinberg approaches his book from the aspect of a researcher who has also been the parent of a teenager. He has studied tens of thousands of teenagers around the world.
I raised two daughters as a single parent. I have taught teenagers for nine years. And I am currently a single foster parent specifically for teenagers. They can be fascinating creatures while they are making us bonkers.
Every six weeks, there will be a new release of information. I will notify you via Remind and in the school newsletter.
Thanks for allowing me to be on this adventure with you and your/our teenager.
