SAT vs. ACT

Only you can decide which test would benefit you! Most colleges and universities accept either test. If you are unsure about your chosen school, look on the school's website or call and ask!

The ACT strives to assess the knowledge you’ve acquired, meaning that the test focuses on subjects and skills taught in high school. (Like the EOC). No penalty for wrong answers.  Max score is 36.

The SAT is re-designed this year to be more like the ACT.  You are tested on Evidence-based Reading and Writing and Math. No penalty for wrong answers.  Max score is 1600.

There are many ways to prepare.  Both tests have excellent websites that provide resources for studying:

Mrs. Brumby also has a limited number of practice booklets in the Counselors’ Office.

Some students may be eligible for an ACT or SAT waiver.  There are eligibility requirements.  See Mrs. Brumby for an application.
