ELA (English Language Arts)

Our ELA segment will include interactive reading, grammar, and writing.

  • Week of 8-10-18

This week we will practice grammar skills using a daily language review. A daily grade from the skills covered in class will be on Friday. In writing, students have been doing some "quick writes"  to strengthen narrative writing skills. There will be a test over narrative writing vocabulary words and the elements of a narrative on Thursday. Students will have a study guide for this content.

  • Week of 8-27-18

This week in ELA we will work on skills related to a mentor sentence from the book, Tuck Everlasting. There will be a daily grade over skills taught in class throughout the week. We are also wrapping up our informational writing and starting a new unit on narrative writing.

  • Writing

8-20-18  We have finished our rough drafts for our five paragraph informational essays, titled "All About Me." We will use checkilists to check for all of the essential elements, and then we will type the essays with our i pads. I am looking forward to hearing students share them on Friday.

  • Grammar: Simple, Compound, and Complex Sentences

Writing needs to include varying sentence types in order to flow rather than sounding robotic. We will work on how to compose a variety of sentence types. This includes simple, compound, and complex sentences.
