English Language Arts is the combination of letters, letter sounds, sight words, CVC words, reading comprehension and writing skills.

We begin the year by teaching letters and letter sounds. Once, the students begin learning sounds they quickly learn to put these sounds together to begin reading simple CVC (consanant-vowel-consanant) words. Usually, by Christmas, an average Kindergarten child can read simple sentences.

We also teach Sight Words. Sight words are not intended to be sounded out. We teach the students to recognize these by sight only. We use our current reading series, StoryTown, to teach sight words and reading comprehension.
