Research Project

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Beginning the week of January 14th, we will begin a unit on reference materials and research.  As part of our study, each child will need to create a project about either an animal or a National Park.  The students have already made their choice for their project and your child chose _____________________________________________________. Next, they will use a research fact sheet to find specific information at home and school about the animal or National Park they have chosen.  Encyclopedias, other books, the library, and the internet are all good research tools.  Students will be given time at school to go to the library as well to find books and information for their project.  The student will be required to present the final project to the class.

Some examples of final project displays are:

  • A student created poster with a picture (either hand drawn or glued to the poster) and a neat listing of information gathered during research
  • A diorama (shoe-box display) of the animal in its habitat or the landscape of the National Park (label to mark the name of the animal, what it eats, where it lives, or buildings or monuments of the park)

I will also post pictures of examples on my online classroom.  Pinterest is also a great resource for ideas.

Due date for research fact sheet will be ______________________________

Due date for final project display and presentation will be ___________________

Please review the rubric on the back that will be used to determine your child’s grade. It will be counted as a test grade.

Child’s name: ____________________________________________________

Parent signature: ________________________________________________
