My name is Kris Maynard. This is my 13th year as an educator. I am entering my 10th year at Rockmart Middle School. I have taught Language Arts for all 10 years and have taught Social Studies my last 2 years. My previous 3 years I taught 6th grade Social Studies at Armuchee Middle. I am the head coach for the RMS wrestling and RMS soccer teams. Some of my interests are reading James Patterson books and watching movies. I love watching college football, Go Jackets!!! I enjoy traveling in my free time, especially to the mountains. I feel blessed to be able to teach 7th grade. You are able to see the students grow up before your eyes. It is amazing to be able to positively impact their growth. I am excited about the 2016-17 school year and the challenges/rewards it will bring.

Educational background

I attended Model High School and graduated in 1998. I then attended Reinhardt College and Floyd College for my core courses. I then went to Berry College where I studied Physical Education and transferred to Shorter College where I obtained my Middle Grades Education. I am a highly certified Middle Grades teacher in Language Arts and Social Studies. I am also highly certified in Early Childhood Education.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe as a teacher, I am a guide for the student learner. I help them visualize their end goal. I foster their learning and encourage them to keep going. I help and provide support to students to keep them on their path to graduate high school and become successful in whatever endeavors they choose to pursue. I work to develop a relationship with each individual student and learn what interests they have. I can then show them how their lesson relates to their interests. As a coach, I am able to work outside the walls of a classroom with the students and understand their lives at a deeper level. Students will work harder in class if they believe teachers truly care about them and show them respect.
