Learning the alphabet is a very important part of your child learning to read. It is much more than being able to sing the ABC song. Children need to be able to recognize letters, upper case and lower case, when presented randomly. Children should also be able to make the sounds of each letter. They should also be able to produce both short and long sounds for vowels.
Point out environmental signs, ie. McDonalds, and identify the letter and sound,
Read with your child and have them identify letters and sounds.
There are many videos by Jack Hartman on Youtube that engage children while teaching letters and sounds. Please watch videos with your child to prevent inappropriate content being viewed.
