My name is Jessica Gowens.  I have been teaching at Cherokee since 2007.  I have taught first grade, fourth grade, and EIP during my time at CES.

Philosophy of Education

My goal as an educator is to instill a love of learning within each of my students.  For this to occur I must stay current on the best educational practices.  I want my students to understand that learning will always be a part of their life no matter what path they follow.  To help with this goal, I must use explicit instruction that will help them develope the skills they need to comprehend and make connections as they learn.  I want my students to understand that education is a very important tool.  My classroom should be a place that is a safe, productive environment for learning.  I want my students to understand that we all make mistakes and it is important to use that situation as a learning experience.  To achieve this goal, I must present a balanced approach to my students.  I must present them with quality opportunities to learn while teaching across the curriculum.  I hope by providing these opportunities I will keep my students engaged at levels that will reach their individuals needs.  My end goalis to have students reach their full potential so that one day, their love of learning can provide them with something more.
