Degrees and Certifications:

I am a 1994 graduate of Cedartown High School and lifelong Cedartown resident. I have an Associate of Science Degree (1996) from Floyd College (Georgia Highlands), a Bachelor of Science Degree (1999) in Middle Grades Education from the State University of West Georgia, and a Master of Science Degree (2010) in Library Media & Technology from Jacksonville State University.

Mrs. Laura Cox

My name is Laura Lee Gray Cox.

My teaching career began at Haralson County Middle School in Tallapoosa, Georgia in 1999, where I taught 6th Grade for five years.  In 2004, I transferred to Cedartown Middle School, where I taught two years 7th Grade and four years 6th Grade English Language Arts.  In 2010, I moved to Youngs Grove Elementary, where I taught English Language Arts to 5th Grade students.  In 2015, I happily transferred back to Cedartown Middle School to be the Media & Technology Specialist.  I am also the 7th Grade Distance Learning Teacher, CMS National Junior Honor Society Sponsor, CMS Reading Bowl Coach, CMS Dawg House Student Resource Center Supervisor, and CMS RTI/SST Building Level Contact.

I am married to my middle school sweetheart, Jason Cox.  We currently live in Cedartown with our six magnificent cat children: Bobby, Chauncho, Honey, Lil'Un, Simon, and Tuxedo  My wonderful parents are Greg and Brenda Gray.  I have one younger brother, named Davy, who is married to Jolee; they have two amazing children, Ramplee (20) and Bex (13).  I plan to continue working with elementary/middle grades until retirement, and then move with my husband to Key West, Florida to live happily ever after.

Philosophy:
My philosophy of teaching is that all students will become confident, respectful, compassionate, successful, life-long learners when educated, challenged, and enlightened in a safe, nurturing, supportive, positive, interactive environment.  I feel that it is my professional responsibility, as well as my personal life goal, to facilitate and foster this environment in my classroom, media center, school, and community.

My House:
The foundations of the Red House of Amistad are built on friendship, kindness, and empathy for others.  These ideals are why I selected Amistad as my house, as they correspond directly to my philosophy of education as well as my personal ideals for life by building and sustaining positive and productive relationships with others.
