I have both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Secondary Education, and a Master of Arts Degree in Theatre from the University of Houston.
Mr. Chris Reaves
Hello! I'm Mr. Chris Reaves and I am the Theatre Director and Fine Arts Department Chair at CHS. This is my 24th year as a Cedartown Bulldog and I could not be prouder. As a matter of fact, my wife Alyson Reaves also teaches here at CHS as the Yearbook Advisor and instructor for the Teaching as a Profession Program for our Polk County College and Career Academy and this is our daughter's freshman year at CHS, so we are truly a Bulldog family!
I am currently a board member of the Georgia Theatre Educator's Conference, and in the past served as the chairman for the Cedartown Civic Arts Commission.
I have been a director in some capacity my entire teaching career. I began my career here, at CHS as a 9th and 10th grade English teacher. My second year here I started teaching one drama class. I am proud to say that interest grew very quickly, and before I knew it time had flown, we had one 6 Region One-Act Championships, and had started a tradition of a spring Variety Show that will have it's 21st performance this year! CHS is currently a member in good standing in the International Thespian Society, a theatre honor society that has been in existence since the 1800s. CHS theatre students have gone on to have roles in movies, TV shows, and even on Broadway! I have taught Sam Hunt, Jason Wilkes, and Trey Butler who has been on The Walking Dead.
My Educational Philosophy is one of mutual respect with my students. From the first day of class to the last day of class I treat my students with respect. They understand that they will have more freedom in a theatre classroom which will allow them to emotionally grow in ways they could never have imagined, but they do know that there is a limit. I will not tolerate disrespect. I work to make each and every student know that they are worth the effort. Each and every day.
Once the CHS Fine Arts Building is finished and we have our own theatre space, the sky is the limit for our program! To repeat I AM PROUD TO BE A BULLDOG!
