All ten Polk School District schools received two emergency “Go Kits” from Polk Medical Center.  Chris Butler, Kenna Baker and Jamie Youngblood presented the kits in at Tuesday night’s board meeting.  The kits contain first aid materials, flashlights, and materials used to stop bleeding in an emergency situation.

Polk School District School Nutrition receives  Shake It Up's highest level, Gold,  recognition from Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) School Nutrition Team, the State School Superintendent and State Board of Education. Shake It Up in a movement to change the culture of school nutrition by the implementation of researched best practices focusing on three key areas; Tasty Meals, Friendly Cafeterias, and Happy Schools.

This event is a culmination of our planning and partnership with representatives from all of our local law enforcement agencies. PSD presents the “Jean Days” fundraiser donations to the Ferst Foundation. The Ferst Foundation places books in the hands of children, newborn through age five, to strengthen their literacy skills before entering kindergarten.

Cherokee Elementary celebrated Arbor Day today. They were shown the importance of planting & caring for trees! To show their dedication, they planted their own TWO trees!

Joshua Bearden, teacher at Northside Elementary, had the honor of attending the NEA Foundation Teacher of Excellence Gala in Washington D.C. this past Friday, February 9th. He was the 2018 Georgia recipient for the California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence. Mr. Bearden was presented with this award from Mr. Beau Brown (Chairman and CEO of California Casualty), Ms. Harriet Sanford (President and CEO of The NEA Foundation) and Ms. Lily Eskelsen Garcia( President of the NEA).  Mr. Bearden was nominated for this award by Dr. Dorothy Welch (CMS Math teacher) and Dr. SId Chapman (President of the Georgia Association of Educators). He was one of 38 educators that was honored that evening.
The awards ceremony took place in the National Building Museum in Washington D.C. an the ceremony can be viewed at www.neafoundation.org.

Polk School District wants to take the opportunity to congratulate all the CHS Varsity Cheerleaders & Coaches for their 5AAAA REGION win! This is their 4th consecutive Region win! WOW!
They will compete at State this Saturday, November 11th at the Columbus Civic Center (Session 1) starting at 9:00 AM.

Cherokee Elementary, along with Carmen Burch of Cedarstream, presented Chief Kenny Dodd and the Polk County Police Department with a check of $1,164.00 for the trust fund of Isaac Hearne, in memory of our fallen officer. Cherokee Elementary sold "Back the Blue" t-shirts, with all the proceeds going to help Isaac, son of Det. Kristen Hearne.

Road Closings Due to Law Enforcement Activity 9/29/17

The Polk County Police Department has indicated that the following roads are closed for an indefinite amount of time this afternoon:

Short Road
John Redding Road
Seab Green Road
Friendship Road
Highway 100
Cave Springs Road
Santa Claus Mountain Road

The following bus numbers are not allowed to deliver to these roads:

If your residence is located on these roads, your child will remain at their school. Please feel free to pick your child up at this time. Personnel will remain at school until we are given clearance to run these routes. We apologize for this inconvenience, but the safety of our students is our top priority.
