Welcome to my class website. I am a SLP (Speech Language Pathologist/Speech Therapist) at Westside Elementary. I am married to Carson Tanner. We have three children: Raegan, Reece, and Rachel. I have a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of West Georgia. I finished working on my Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University in December, 2013. I have been a SLP for 21 years, the last 15 of those at Westside. In speech, we focus on many specific skills but with the main goal of improving communication. I work with PreK through 5th grade students. I believe communication is an integral part of a student's success, and I want to help each student that I serve reach their full potential.
I also serve as the special education chairperson at Westside. If your child receives speech-language services, if you are concerned about your child's speech-language development, or if you have general questions regarding special education services, please feel free to contact me by e-mail or phone. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. At Westside I am also a co-sponsor of the Beta Club for qualifying fifth grade students. We participate in projects that benefit the community and strive to help our members learn the value of character and service to others.
My Online Classroom contains materials and resources that can be used with speech students. The "classrooms" are divided into the different areas of communication, to make it as easy as possible to access the resources you need.
I also wanted to inform you that we are now able to provide speech/language services virtually using Zoom, in some circumstances; such as extended quarantines and distance learning. During the quarantine, session times will remain the same as if your child were still in school. In this case, you will be provided with a link through your email that includes the scheduled session time.
For those new to Zoom, I have provided parent/caregiver "cheat sheet" link below that explains how to access Zoom and step by step directions. Click the Zoom picture below for the link.
