Keeping Germs Away Info

Polk School District is closely monitoring attendance during this time of concern of flu season and outbreaks.  In the meantime faculty and staff are diligently using disinfectant, while teachers have instructed and reinforce students on taking precautions to cut down on illnesses.

Encourage the students to be diligent in respiratory etiquette--blowing noses, covering coughs & sneezing.  Cover all using the bend of elbow, the shoulder area or pulling up the neck of their shirt and covering the cough.  Discourage COVERING COUGHS/SNEEZES WITH THEIR HANDS.  Throw soiled tissues in garbage can immediately.  Use hand sanitizer afterwards.

There has also been reports in community-acquired, diarrhea-based illnesses. These illnesses, such as norovirus and clostridium difficile, are not killed by alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Hands must be cleaned with soap and running water, and surfaces should be wiped down with cleaners that are bleach-based.  Unfortunately, bleach water has to be mixed daily because it's potency only lasts 24 hours.

Please encourage individuals to keep hands washed especially with stomach virus symptoms, use hand sanitizer if hand washing is not immediately available; keep hands away from eyes/faces. Most viruses are attained from eye rubbing and or touching faces; don't share food.

Encourage individuals to be smart, safe and hopefully stay well!
