Exciting News!! 9th Grade Literature will be offered at RMS!!

Next year, RMS will be offering select students the opportunity to take 9th Grade Literature instead of the traditional 8th Grade Language Arts class. Taking this class will satisfy the 8th Grade Language Arts requirement and will also allow him/her to earn high school credit for 9th Grade Literature.  Therefore, these students will not need to take 9th grade English as a high school freshman; he/she will have other options available. Students were selected based on his/her performance on the 7th grade CRCT. Letters were mailed last week to selected students. Mrs. Katie Pruitt will be leading the students on this exciting journey!

Sixth Grade Summer Academy at Rockmart Middle School

The idea of making the transition from 5th grade to middle school can be an exciting but scary experience for both students and their parents. Uncertainty looms in their minds. "What will change? What if I get lost?
What if I can't open my locker? Come to think of it, what if I get stuffed in a locker?" These are only a few of the countless questions and concerns of a typical anxious upcoming 6th grader. To help alleviate some of these worries, Rockmart Middle School will be hosting a 6th Grade Summer Academy that is open to all upcoming 6th grade students for the 2014-2015 school year. The Academy will take place on August 6, 2014 from 9:00 am-1:00 pm, and lunch will be provided. Although bus transportation will be available, parents are certainly welcome to drop off and pick up their students as well. The school's 6th grade teachers will start the day by welcoming students to the academy. They will help students connect with the school and teach them how to prepare and organize themselves for the upcoming year by giving them a glimpse into middle school life. They will also, of course be able to answer anything weighing on the minds of their new pupils with information that comes from years of experience helping 6th graders make the transition into middle school life. The academy is sure to provide excellent stepping stones for students and parents alike. Be sure to look for more information on the School's Website or Facebook page as the date approaches.
