My name is Maggie Buchanan. I am a certified school psychologist who serves the students of Cherokee Elementary School, Youngs Grove Elementary School, Cedartown Middle School, and Cedartown High School. I also serve a residential treatment center, Murphy Harpst Children’s Center, and I assist with developmental ARENA evaluations for young children when needed. Services I offer include: administrating comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for special education eligibility purposes and for instructional planning purposes; consulting with teachers for individual student academic and/or behavioral concerns; assisting with the valid and effective implementation of RTI (Response to Intervention); providing teacher and parent trainings on identified areas of need; providing individual and group counseling to students; advocating for the needs of each student; connecting parents with community service providers; and providing assistance during school crises.
I have training and experience with early reading problems, written expression problems, math problems, anxiety, oppositional/defiant behaviors, conduct problems, depression, self-injury, and truancy. I have experience working with a variety of individuals such as students with ADHD, students with learning difficulties, unmotivated students, students who experience test anxiety, students with social skill weaknesses, students with medical conditions and/or diseases, students who have academic organization/preparation difficulties, and students facing many community and home-based risk factors.
