Hi, let me introduce myself. I am 53 years old and have always lived here in Polk County. I am a product of the Polk County School System and attended Polk County Schools grades 1-12. I graduated from Rockmart High School in 1982. It is hard to believe that I am starting my 30th year of teaching. Fifteen of those years I taught in the Gordon County Schools System. The first five years I taught at Red Bud School, and the next 10 years I taught at Sonoraville East Middle School. I came to Polk County Schools in 2002 and taught at Goodyear for 5 years and I am starting my 10th year at Westside. I have taught in every grade except K, and 12th at sometime during my 30 years of teaching.
I hold a Bachelors degree, Masters degree, and a Specalist of Education degree from the University of West Georgia. I am certified to teach in elementary school, middle school, and social studies in high school. I also hold certifications in gifted education and in administration.
I am married to Wendi Upton and we have no children. However, we do share our home with two dogs, Gus a Miniature Schnauzer, and Max a Yorkie mix.
I am looking forward to getting to to know you in the coming year. Please, feel free to contact me if there is anything that I can do.
My EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that all the students that I teach are individuals with their own educational needs. Especially in my role as an EIP teacher I believe that it is my responsibility to determine their needs and tailor my instruction to meet those needs. As an educator I realize that children have only one school experience, and what happens here will greatly shape their future. I keep this in mind as I work with the teachers and parents to help the students have the best educational experience possible.
