Hi, and thanks for visiting my website! My name is Laura Kelley and this is my fourth year serving as an EIP (Early Intervention Program) teacher. I am thrilled to have the opportunity of co-teaching with several other teachers to meet the needs of our students. This year I have the privilege of working closely with fourth and fifth grade students.
I have been teaching for over 30 years, either in the public or private setting, and I just love it! To see a child grow and develop is an awesome thing and I consider myself fortunate to be able to be a part of it every day. Although I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics from JSU, I made the decision after one year of working in a related field to enter the graduate program at North GA College and obtain a teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education. I am so thankful I did, because I have met so many wonderful children and families over the years. It is a trememdous blessing when I see former students and they come up to reminisce about the days they were in my class. I am now having the additional blessing of seeing their children being born (Wow! That makes me feel old!).
I have been married to Doyle, a man that wears many hats, for 34 years and it doesn't seem possible (time flies when you're having fun!). He is Pastor at Wordview Baptist Church, Cedartown, and at Cedartown High School, he is Athletic Director, head baseball coach, head football coach, and the ISS teacher. We have three wonderful sons, Trey, Lee and Matt, and two beautiful daughters in law, Amy (Trey) and Rachel(Lee). Our family is very important to us, and we spend most of our time involved in activities that include the entire clan, therefore, we stay on the go in many directions! My sons, all former Westside students, visit our school several times each year, and my students hear about them and their experiences often. With Matt being a sophomore at the University of Alabama, we will be yelling ROLL TIDE!, as well as GO DAWGS!, this year!
My philosophy is that no one knows a child like the parent(s), and I covet their input in his/her child's education. I always enjoy talking with family members of students and encourage them to take an active part in the education of their loved one. Furthermore, I believe and feel strongly that a child gets the most from his education when the family, school, and teacher work together. It is my desire and goal to help every child I work with reach their fullest potential, educationally and personally. I look forward to seeing these children grow and develop by leaps and bounds. I available to all families to assist in any way I can.
