Thank you for visiting my online classroom. I am really excited about this school year! Let me start by telling you a little about myself. I graduated from Kennesaw State University with my Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. Later, I attended Jacksonville State University where I earned my Masters degree in Educational Administration. I have had the pleasure of teaching 5th grade, Kindergarten, 1st grade, and EIP Reading. I am honored to be the Assistant Principal at Van Wert Elementary School this year!

My belief in education is to provide the best learning opportunity for all of my students. With this in mind, I know that it is imperative to stay up to date with the current research and to be willing to change my style of teaching as new ideas evolve. Over my career I have developed a love for reading! This is why I strive to find best teaching practices for my classroom. I believe in a balanced approach to literacy. This begins with creating a genuine appreciation for good literature. It includes teaching phonemic awareness, phonics, grammar skills, reading and comprehension skills and the stages of reading and writing. I believe a classroom should include direct instruction and indirect reading instruction. I believe in a literacy rich environment where students have the freedom to make choices. Teachers should know each student’s reading level and their strength and weaknesses. Literacy instruction should be taught across the curriculum. I want all of my students to develop a love of reading and to become life long learners.
