The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."
Hello, and welcome to the Art site
Cherokee Elementary .
My name is Christy Durham Hill and I have been teaching art in PSD at Cherokee Elementary now for 30 wonderful years.
I am a graduate of Rockmart High School (78) and hold a BS in Art Education (Minors in both Art History and Fine Arts) and a Masters in Early Childhood from Berry College.
I am an artist along with teaching art-painting, drawing, ceramics/pottery, and many arts and crafts.
My hobbies, beside art, are reading, camping, watching sports, comic books, watching movies, and listening to good music (which my husband performs in several bands.)
I am married to Freddie Hill and we live in Cedartown.
My Art Philosophy
I start with the students and the prior knowledge and beliefs that they bring to class regarding the subject to be learned. I help students to build bridges linking new content and skills to their prior knowledge and to draw out any misconceptions they may have about the topic that may distort their learning.
As an art teacher educator, I am constantly looking for ways to improve my subject knowledge. I set an example by continuing to be a student of Art, of teaching, and of learning. I always endeavor to do the very best I can in the classroom, never forgetting the influence I have on my students who will become future teachers themselves. I instill in them an enthusiasm for Art, for teaching, and for learning by the enthusiasm I bring to each lesson.
