Amariah Pollard is the first 7th grade student this semester to finish all 20 keyboarding lessons in Microtype. Very few students complete this task and when they do, we like to celebrate their success. We are so proud of you and your accomplishment! If you see Amariah make sure to congratulate her!
Welcome to my website! My name is Rodney Little. This is my 4th year teaching Careers. Overall, I have 22 years experience in education with Polk School District. I am excited about another great year!
I am a native of Cedartown, Georgia. After graduating from Cedartown High School, I joined the United States Army. I served in the army for three years. I returned to Cedartown, Georgia and began my education career at Floyd Junior College then finished at West Georgia College. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades education. I went on to receive my Masters and Specialist in Education Administration from Jacksonville State University.
My Philosophy: I strongly believe the key to student learning begins with a teacher who cares and motivates the students. Students must believe in themselves in order to become successful learners. My motto is "If a student believes then he/she can achieve!" In order for students to become successful, it is imperative to create lessons that are developmentally appropriate. I aspire to recognize the uniqueness of each student and his/her educational needs. Learning each student's strengths and weaknesses through assessments and observations allows me to differentiate individual instruction. I feel it is necessary to provide learning experiences that meet all learning modalities. In addition, all students benefit from multisensory learning experiences. Most importantly, I make learning exciting and fun! I encourage the development of skills like integrity, honesty, responsibility, cooperation and patience. It is a privilege to be a part of molding your child and motivating him/her to become a lifelong learner. I believe that it takes a team to educate children: the students, the parents, the staff, the administration, the teachers, and the community. I look forward to working with everyone to make this a great year. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
Your partner in education,
Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of keyboarding in sixth grade. These skills will be continued and reinforced in the seventh and eight grade. Students will practice keyboarding skills using Microtype. This is the software that students will use through-out the 9 weeks for their warm-up, keyboarding lessons and tests. Each week, students will have a keyboarding test.To practice for keyboarding tests, students can click the following link: Peter's Online Typing Course. The typing lessons in this program are very similiar to the weekly keyboarding tests that your child will take. To practice for Test 1, practice Lesson 1. To practice for Test 2, practice Lesson 2 and so on.
Work Ethics Project
Our 6th grade students have been learning about the importance of Work Ethics. They worked together to develop stories on bad work ethics and ways to avoid making bad decisions. They used graphic organizers to brainstorm and organize main ideas. They used Microsoft Word to compose the first draft of their story. The final draft was transferred to either Book Creator or Story Creator based on their personal preference. Some students kept the book format and added hyperlinks to website and videos. Other students converted their story into a video using iMovie and added background music and sound effects. Both versions were narrated by students and illustrations were provided by Google Images.

This week our eighth grade students researched work ethics and behavior characteristics needed for a successful career and life. Using their research, students created a PowerPoint presentation and converted it into a movie. They decided the topics for each slide and included examples of both good and bad work ethics. Students used the websites Brainy Betty and Sound Bible for sound clips. They used clip art images and pictures from Google images.
