Word Work Focus of the Week

We have begun working on some essential grammar skills during our word work time each day. This week we will be working to distinguish between a common noun and a proper noun. .

Standard addressed in this weeks word sort focus:

I know the final e and the common vowel teams  will make long vowel sounds.

Sort words into categories to gain a sense of the concepts the categories represent.

For the next two weeks students will be sorting words into 4 categories. Words with a short a sound, words with long a sounds spelled with a_e, words spelled with a short a, words spelled with long i and short i words .

Test on these words will be on Friday, November 5

Below is the list of words:

short a- last, cram, band, clash

long a spelled with a "magic e"- gate, date, space, place, make and safe

short i- bring, fish, film, and mint

long i spelled with a 'magic e"- nice, wife, side shine, smile, time

This is an example of my student modeling "word sort." (Word Work)
