This pathway is designed to provide students with career-focused educational opportunities in various public safety fields. Each course has elements which cover tactics, methods, and skills utilized by law enforcement and other public safety fields.
Pathway Courses: Course 1: Introduction to Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security
Course 2: Criminal Justice Essentials
Course 3: Criminal Investigations
Materials Needed: A notebook in which you can record vocabulary, warm-ups, and class notes. A 3 ring binder or folder will allow you to store your handouts with the rest of your notes. Don’t forget pencils! Some of your assessments will be on ScanTron forms.
Late Assignments: Late Project assignments receive 10 point reduction per day.
Attendance: It is very important for the student to be present and on time for class each day. The student will be graded on participation and completion of hands on activities. These can only be completed in class, and for this reason, attendance is extremely important.
Make-up Work Policy: Students whose absences are excused have the opportunity to make up work missed within two weeks. It is the student's responsibility to find out what work was missed within 3 days of returning to school. Make-up work may consist of a written assignment in lieu of a missed lab activity. Additional time may be granted by the administration for completion of makeup work taking into consideration the number of absences and the extenuating circumstance of the absences. Assignments from unexcused absences cannot be made up.
Class Policies/Rules: All policies of the Polk School District Board of Education and student handbook will be enforced.
Final Exam: The final exam for this course will be a review test of standards covered during the year
Grading Policy: 50% Participation, Lab, Project Grades

10% Final exam
Public Safety Club: The Public Safety Club is open to all Public Safety students. Membership fee is $20. The Club will participate in various activities and field trips throughout the year. In addition, some club members will compete in state and national Skills USA competitions.
