For the week of 8/06/2018, our shared story is Hooray for Snail. We will practice reading this story by echo reading, choral reading, and partner reading.
For the week of 8/06/2018, our interactive read aloud is Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Students will listen to this story as a whole group. They will use accountable talk during our discussions over the story. Ask your child about what it means to use accountable talk.
We are still working hard in our guided reading groups. Your child should be bringing home a printed booklet to read. Please remember to send it back each day so that we can use it in class. If there is a check in the top corner of the book, your child can keep the book at home. All groups are not on the same reader. Thanks for your help making your child a successful reader!
Helpful suggestions: When your child gets stuck on an unfamiliar word, get him/her to sound out and blend the sounds together out loud. Ask him or her to reread sentences to help with fluency and comprehension. Say-spell-say is a great way to practice spelling words, and any game that requires your child to race to a new speed with sight words is always beneficial.
