School counselors are educators with a mental health perspective who understand and respond to the challenges presented by today’s diverse student population. School counselors don’t work in isolation; rather are an important part of the total educational program. We are vital members of the educational team and we work alongside teachers to help students achieve school success. This is accomplished through the design, development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive, developmental school guidance program. School Counselors provide assistance to all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development and career development. Individual counseling, small group counseling and classroom guidance are used to ensure students' needs are being met academically, personally, socially and from a career persepective.
Students can self-refer to Mrs. Brumby or teachers/parents/guardians can make a referral. Students are usually seen the day of the referral, but sometimes it's the next day before Mrs. Brumby can see the student. Anything the student discloses is confidential unless the student is in danger of hurting themselves, hurting someone else, or someone is hurting them.
