Course Description:

The goal of this course is to promote essential skills and knowledge students need to develop a positive self-concept. This course will provide students with opportunities to identify interests, abilities, aptitudes, values, and personality traits as they relate to career planning, to develop a keen understanding of the value and benefit of work, and to differentiate between jobs and careers.

                                                                                         

In this course, middle school students will experience a variety of activities that promote self- awareness, self-management skills, leadership, teamwork, career exploration, and educational planning related to students’ future educational and career plans. At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to analyze personal characteristics and apply these characteristics in the career planning process.

Materials Needed:

pencil, paper, earbuds or headphones

Grading Policy:

Participation, Labs and Projects = 50%

Objective Assessments= 20%

Final Exam = 10%

Employability Skills=20%

Class Policies/Rules:

  • Enter the Classroom on time and place backpacks on floor and out of walkways
  • No HORSEPLAY around the computers
  • Take care of your own Workstations.  Report to teacher immediately if equipment is damaged OR if settings have been changed in any way.
  • Follow Teacher Directions.
  • Respect people and respect property.
  • No sleeping or putting head down on tables.
  • Stay seated unless directed otherwise.
  • Do not adjust or change the computers in ANY way.  This includes NOT changing the mouse settings, screen savers, or display settings in ANY WAY.
  • Personal e-mail is not to be checked in the computer lab.
  • Students should not be on the Internet or on any website that is not assigned by the teacher
  • Follow all School Rules and Procedures.

 

 

Make-up Work Policy:

For each grading period, makeup work must be completed no later than two weeks after progress reports are issued. Students may not make up work outside of the grading period window once the time has passed. Re-Test Policy: Any student can retest one test per quarter provided that the student attends tutoring as directed by the teacher or drop their lowest test grade at the end of the semester. This excludes, but not limited to benchmark assessments, final exams, standardized tests (such as EOC Milestones, SLOs, EOPA, AP Exams, etc.), major projects and/or research that required an exorbitant amount of time in and outside the classroom (i.e. research paper).

Exam Exemption:

Students must have an 80 average or above with no more than 3 absences. Any and all exemption policies do not apply to EOCs, Milestones or SLO exams or other PSD mandated examinations.

 

Late Assignment Policy:

Students are expected to turn in all completed assignments at the time scheduled by the teacher. Any assignment turned in late will result in a ten point deduction per day late in the grade.

Homework Policy:

Students are required to complete homework and turn in the completed assignments when requested. Failure to turn in homework will result in a 10 point deduction per day late in the grade.
