What is a Lexile measure?
A Lexile measurement is used to match readers with the appropriate text. We use the myON Placement and Benchmark exams to measure reading ability and provide Lexile scores. The Lexile score is given at the end of the exam and allows the reader to select text within their Lexile range. This ensures that students are reading books on their level. Each month students in third grade are assigned a project which contains a Lexile Benchmark. Students will take this exam in their reading block at the beginning of each new month. Celebrations will be held monthly to reward Lexile growth. To achieve growth, students can read library books, myOn digital books, magazine articles, and any other text that are interesting. The key is to READ, READ, READ!
