Writing

Third graders are expected to use books, websites, and other digital sources to do research projects and to build knowledge about different topics. They will do this on their own and as part of group work with their peers. They will also learn the importance of taking notes. Students will learn how to write down what they learn from each source they use, keeping track of the source name and page so they are able to find it again, and then practice sorting any evidence they find into relevant categories. Students will also learn to organize their work using a beginning, middle, and end, focusing on sequence of events. We will work on strategies to make our writing better, and students will become familiar with the writing process. We will focus on opinion, informative/explanatory, and narrative writing.
