One of the roles I fill at Van Wert is that of Academic Screener. Once students are identified as needing some extra help, they are entered into the RTI (Response to Intervention) process. There are certain steps along the way, and, sometimes your child may need some academic screenings to help both you and the homeroom teacher see where your child is in the learning process. You are notified in writing, and you are also asked to sign a Consent for Screening. At that point, I bring the children into my classroom for some one on one time to complete assessments in reading, verbal and non verbal knowledge, grammar, spelling, writing and mathematics. The results are then shared with your child's homeroom teacher who, in turn, shares them with you.
