Class Launcher: Write an introduction to a story that involves this image. Write from the perspective of one of the hikers. 

Standards: ELAGSE9-10RL2: Determine a theme and/or central idea of text and analyze in detail its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective summary of the text. ELAGSE9-10RL3: Analyze how complex characters (e.g., those with multiple or conflicting motivations) develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme. ELAGSE9-10W1: Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence. 

EQ: How does the character development contribute to the theme of the book?

Activator: Are you smarter than a 5th grader?  Jimmy Fallon and Pitbull compete with 5th graders. 

Teaching and Learning Strategies:

1. With a partner, answer the questions related to Chapters 4-6. Each team member is responsible for a post in Showbie (TKAM Notes). 

2. Create a timeline in the Timeline App using Chapters 1-7. At least one event per chapter. You may have more than one event. When you complete your timeline, click on "finish". You will have two pages that you can screenshot - 1. the actual timeline. 2. the extended responses. (post in Showbie)

3. Individually, respond to the question about who is smarter. 

Summarizer: What is the current theme in TKAM? Multiple themes?
