How to create exponents in Microsoft Word

How to add exponents in Microsoft Word (3 ways—depending on the version of Word you are using):

Easy way:

  1. Look directly above the word “Font” in the tool bar at the top of the page.
  2. Click on the x2.  It should become highlighted.
  3. Type the number or word that you need as an exponent.
  4. Click the x2 symbol again to un-highlight it.

 

One way:

  1. Click on “Insert” at the top of the page.
  2. Then click on “Symbol” on the right side.
  3. Choose the “More Symbols” option.
  4. Choose the symbol you need, and click “insert.”

Another way:

  1. Highlight the number (or text) that you want to make into an exponent.
  2. Right click on the highlighted section and choose “Font.”
  3.  Under “Effects,” choose “Superscript.”
  4. Click OK.
  5. Hit the space bar.
  6. Right click again, and choose “Font.”
  7. Under “effects,” remove the check beside “Superscript.”
  8. Click OK.
