Communication Skills Class Starter:
This is an activity the students have always enjoyed because they get to talk about themselves and what they did the day before. Each child takes a brief turn (less than 5 minutes) to tell the class what they did the day before. They talk about such things as what they had for supper, what they watched on TV, what they did outside, who they played with, etc. The other students listen and then tell me one thing that person said. This gives us all an opportunity to practice expressive and receptive communication skills - usually a weakness among my students. Two of my students use an augmentative communication device because of their limited communication skills.
