Welcome to Mrs. Godfrey’s
2nd Grade Class
“Setting the Stage for Learning”
Welcome to my classroom. Let me share a few things about myself. My name is Debbie Godfrey. I’ve been married to my husband Lance for 18 years, and we have two daughters Abbie and Maddie Lucy. As a parent myself, I know how much you value your child’s education. I feel parent involvement is very important and is the key to helping your child become successful in school. This will be my 14th year of teaching. I taught Kindergarten for 11 years. This will be my third year teaching 2nd grade, I am so excited! This year I will be team teaching with Mrs. Lawrence. I will be teaching Reading and Language Arts. Mrs. Lawrence will be teaching Math, Science/Social Studies. Look below for other important information. I look forward to a great school year and getting to know every child and his/her family. I can’t wait to watch your child “SHINE” this year! If you have questions or concerns, please contact me by a note in your child’s agenda, call the school 678-901-4294, or e-mail email@example.com. Thanks so much for all you do to help your child be successful in school!

*Homework- Homework is given to reinforce what we are learning in the classroom and will count as 5% of your child’s final grade. In reading your child will bring home a reading log folder. More information about homework will be sent home soon.
*Weekly Newsletter-I will send home a class newsletter every week letting you know important information, homework, and the standards we are working on in class.
*Discipline- Rules are necessary for every student to follow so that our classroom is a productive, peaceful, learning environment without distractions. Our classroom rules and school rules are the same. Posters with rules under each “D.A.W.G. S. letter” are posted in our classroom as well as around the school so that students see these daily and rules are consistent. The rules are basic and simple, however very important:
Do the right thing
Give 100% everyday
Show pride & respect
*Classroom Discipline Plan-
This year we will focus on rewarding positive behavior. Each student will be given a hole-punch card to keep in our classroom. Students will earn a punch daily for following class and school rules. If your child exhibits exemplary behavior he/she can earn extra punches throughout the week. On Friday, if students have 5 or more punches on their card they will receive a treat from me. When their punch card has all 20 holes punched they will receive a treasure box prize or special treat. If your child misbehaves during class and has their card taken away for that day, he/she will lose recess time and will not receive a hole-punch for that day. We feel that this plan will promote positive characteristics of a good citizen which correlates with our Social Studies standards. This way every child can feel successful in the classroom and have a chance to “SHINE”.
*Again, thanks so much for all you do to help your child succeed in school!
