This is a required course for graduation

Course Description:  The Health and Physical Fitness programs provide each student with the information and skills necessary to be active and healthy.  Students are encouraged to become responsible for their own health and fitness as they learn the connection between establishing good habits now and enjoying their lives in the future.

Text:  Health – A Guide to Wellness (Glencoe)

Course Objectives:

  4. Nutrition                                                               12.  Personal Health/Personal Hygiene

  6. Dating                                                                  14.  Mental Health
  7. Pregnancy/Human Reproduction                             15.  Health Consumerism
  8. Growth and Development                                       16.  Safety – First Aid/CPR

 

Materials Needed: Spiral Notebook, Pencil, I-Pad (Please bring a charger to make sure your I-Pad can stay charged throughout the day please.)

Grading Policy:  60% - Tests

                          20% - Daily Work/Homework/Notebook

                          20% - Midterm/Final

Attendance, Make-up, Grading, Discipline Policies:  Polk School District Policy will be followed.

Classroom Rules of Conduct:  All students are expected to be in class on time, bring I-pad, pencil or pen, paper, and be prepared to work each day.  Students should pay attention in class, complete assignments in a timely manner, and show respect for themselves, the teacher, and peers.

 3 POSITIVE P’S: PROMPT, PREPARED, POLITE

Consequences for deviations from these rules may include verbal reprimand, detention, discipline slips, or no credit for assignments or tests which were not completed in specified time.

Expectations of Parents:  Encourage your child to complete all assignments, to study for tests, to request extra help if needed.  Please emphasize the importance of attendance and make sure that your child misses class only when absolutely necessary.  If your child has been absent, emphasize that all make-up assignments and tests be completed within the allowable time frame.

  (Important:  It is the students’ responsibility to ask for any missed assignment.)
