CAREER CLUSTER: Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security
CAREER PATHWAY: Law Enforcement Services/Forensic Science
This pathway is designed to provide students with career-focused educational opportunities in various public safety fields. Each course has elements which cover tactics, methods, and skills utilized by law enforcement and other public safety fields.
Pathway Courses: Course 1: Introduction to Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security
Course 2: Criminal Justice Essentials
Course 3: Criminal Investigation/Forensics
Materials Needed: I-pad fully charged and brought to class daily. Pen, Pencil, 1 inch 3 Ring Binder with side pockets - (2nd year students add a yellow high lighter & a composition notebook) Cell Phones must be placed in our designated area as they are not permitted at any time.
Late Assignments: Late Project assignments receive 10 point reduction per day.
Attendance: It is very important for the student to be present and on time for class each day. The student will be graded on participation and completion of hands on activities. These can only be completed in class, and for this reason, attendance is extremely important.
Make-up Work Policy: Students whose absences are excused have the opportunity to make up work missed within two weeks. It is the student's responsibility to find out what work was missed within 3 days of returning to school. Make-up work may consist of a written assignment in lieu of a missed lab activity. Additional time may be granted by the administration for completion of makeup work taking into consideration the number of absences and the extenuating circumstance of the absences. Assignments from unexcused absences cannot be made up.
Class Policies/Rules: All policies of the Polk School District Board of Education and student handbook will be enforced.
Final Exam: The final exam for this course is a review test of standards covered during the year. Students must have an 80 average or above with no more than 3 absences. Any and all exemption polices do not apply to EOCTs, AP/MOWR exams or other PSD mandated examinations.
ReTest Policy: Only 1 retest is permitted every 9 weeks (once per grading period)
Grading Policy: 50% Participation, Lab, Project Grades 10% Mid Term & Final Exam
20% Employability Skills 20% Tests
Discipline Plan: 1st Offense - Verbal Warning, loss of privilege, seat change, etc.
2nd Offense - Behavior Contract, Detention, & Parent Contact
3rd Offense - Discipline Referral to Administrator
