Essential Question/

Key Question

How do I make transformations of a polygon in a coordinate plane?

How do I make transformations of a polygon in a coordinate plane?

How do I make transformations of a polygon in a coordinate plane?

 Time 2 min
Lesson Opener

Students will brainstorm on concepts taught in Elementary School on performing basic transformations.

Students will complete a warm up skills check sheet.

I will have a brief warm up problem for students to complete as they walk in.

Procedures/Strategies

 Time 40 min

Direct Instruction.

First I will introduce the four types of transformations and then focusing on translations.  Students will learn how to translate a polygon in a coordinate plane.

Students will be instructed to turn in their homework and I will begin teaching reflections after the skills check.

I will finish reviewing the rules for translating objects in the coordinate plane and pass out a practice worksheet that has translation and reflection problems where they have to graph the polygon and write the rule.

 Time 3 min
Lesson Summary

I will briefly review the rules for translations.

I will summarize by reviewing the rules for translating and reflecting objects.

I will ask DOK 1 & 2 level questions on translations and reflections.

 Time 1 min
Assessment/

Evaluation

Questioning throughout the lesson.  Students will be given a homework sheet to complete.
