This week in 5th grade math, we are working on Multiplying and dividing decimals.
Multiplying decimals is very similar to regular multiplication of multi-digit numbers.
Step 1: Ignore the decimals in the numbers and multiply like normal.
2.8 would look like this 28
x 7 x 7
Step 2: Count how many places are to the right of the decimal
Step 3: Then move the decimal the number of places in your answer.
Learn Zillion will help you understand how to multiply decimals using a model. Click on the word Learn Zillion below to access this information. Dividing decimals is a little different. We still incorporate the standard algorithm's steps, but we also have to move our decimals to the correct places.
