The physical education classroom combines many components to assist students in becoming active and healthy individuals. Provided below is a short description of some of the components used in Northside's Physical Education class:


Active Participation for Students
Are physically active for most of the class.
Be an enjoyable experience.
Promote physical activity outside of school.
Feature cooperative, as well as competitive games.


Skill Development
Learn self-management skills, such as goal setting and self-monitoring.
Actively learn cooperation, fair play, and responsible participation in physical activity.
Emphasize knowledge and skills for a lifetime of physical activity.
Help adolescents make a transition to a physically active adult life.
Develop self-confidence.


Assess students on their progress in reaching goals, not on whether they achieve an absolute standard.
Provide different activity choices.
Meet the needs of all students, especially those who are athletically gifted.
Based on defined standards.


  • Fitnessgram

    Beginning with the 2011-2012 school year, official Code of Georgia 20-2-777 required that each local school district conduct an annual fitness assessment program for all students in grades 1 to 12 enrolled in Georgia public school physical education classes taught by certified physical education teachers.

    Students in grades 1-3 will be familiarized with the fitness gram test and grades 4-5 will be tested and the parents will receive an individual report of the fitness assessments that were done in class. All students in grades 1-5 will have their height and weight measured. Click below for more information!

  • For the weeks of October 20th-31st, Northside PE will be playing kickball. This game will teach students basic gameplay, such as running bases. This is a fun game that encourages students to work together and be active outside of school.  This activity addresses Physical Education Standards 1 and 5.

  • Poleball

    November 3-14

    Northside PE will begin playing Poleball.  This game will be played outdoors as much as possible.  Please remember to wear clothing appropriate for the weather, such as a jacket.  Also, students may want to wear older shoes in case they get dirty!  For more information on this game, please click the Poleball link on the left of this page.
