Description:
9th Literature and Composition is a rigorous, performance-based, interactive course focused on the study of literary genres including short story, novel, poetry, drama, and nonfiction.  Works will be studied thematically. Representative literary works are surveyed for content, style, form, diction, and relevancy to our time and culture.  Various print and non-print texts from many cultures and subcultures will be discussed and analyzed through written, verbal, and non-verbal methods.  The course is based on the Georgia’s Common Core curriculum for 9th grade.  Emphasis is placed on the development of critical and analytical thinking skills through classroom discussion of texts, writing, and presenting.  Outside reading and the study of vocabulary are required in this course.  Additionally, students will practice the writing process and produce works that include literary analysis, argument, and research examples. Assignments, activities, and assessments will provide practice toward mastery of 9th Grade Common Core Standards.
Announcements

  • Students will have ample opportunity throughout the semester to improve their grades based on their performance on in-class and out-of-class writing assignments as well as projects. Class room assignments can be made up with an alternative or additional assignment that also demonstrates that the student has mastered the standard. These assignments must be completed within the proper time frame or they will not be accepted. Visit the “Make-up Assignments” link for details on assignments. Students are also welcome to schedule a day for after school tutoring or to discuss any assignment that they did not understand.
