First Grade....what an exciting time in your child's life! Most people will say that they learned to read when they were in first grade. My goal this year is to help your child find success in reading! Our typical day in reading/language arts will consist of four segments: interactive read-aloud (teacher reads), shared reading (students read), writing, and reading groups (the class will be divided into six groups and will work with several adults in the classroom). Students who are not working with an adult will work independently. They may choose to read independently, work with words using ipad apps, listen to reading, or work on a writing activity.
We will use a variety of materials to help achieve this goal....Storytown books, classroom library, good fit books, myON computer program, phonics instruction, and lots more!!
What can you do to help? Have your child practice reading EVERYDAY! It is an essential part to your child's success! Make sure your child is completing the reading log for homework nightly.
